Orchid Event Solutions

I worked full-time at Orchid Event Solutions from 2008 to 2010 and during that time was involved in a large variety of projects. I developed a new brand, a new website, a new look and feel for our online application and even a strategy for developing a suite of new internal apps. I also worked with clients to design and develop microsites for their events.

Website Design

I did a complete overhaul on our corporate website, from planning to design to implementation. We wanted to connect with our target audience - primarily women from 24 to 50 years old - by utilizing a friendly tone, simple color scheme, and and an overall "softness" throughout.

Elements of this design were then carried over into our suite of applications in order to maintain a cohesive brand.

As of the time of writing, my designs are still more or less intact. You can see it live at orchidesolutions.com.

Application Design

I worked closely with a team of developers to refresh the already existing management platform. The functionality and layout was pretty much already locked in, but as new modules were added, I tried to use them to slowly push the application forward.

Branding

Orchid offers very powerful software for full scale event registration management. However, while our software was powerful, our brand was not. Besides being tired and outdated, the logo was too literal, didn't work at smaller sizes or out of context, and didn't convey our emphasis on friendliness and customer service.

After a handful of iterations, we landed here. The abstract shape is much more dynamic and friendly while still referencing an orchid. A new color scheme was also introduced. The blue was updated and a green and orange were added for the ability to create more dynamic designs.

In addition to our corporate logo, I also devised a modular branding system for all of our one-off applications. Seen here in use on Fusion and Imprint, this system was meant to maintain consistency within our apps while not costing a lot of time in development.

Microsite Design

In addition to corporate work, I was also charged with designing and developing microsites for a variety of clients, helping them advertise their event.

In order to do this, I designed and developed a series of internal templates that I was able to use as a starting point for most projects. This allowed me to create great microsites for our clients generally within one to three days of receiving the final content.
